Initially this began in 2014 as a creative collaboration between writer, Jayson Geland, and I on a graphic novella titled, The Souvenir. This story introduced a re-imagined character from Cape Town folklore, pirate captain Van Hunks and his smoking competition with the devil. It was set in a fantastical version of a 17th century era Cape Town and also incorporated and alluded to other local myths and legends.
In 2015 a 2000AD-style anthology was launched, titled SECTOR. It featured various original stories by South African writers and artists. One of the main instigators of this project and my longtime collaborator, Moray Rhoda, suggested that we do a prequel to The Souvenir, as one of the stories. This 84 page tale, Uncharted Waters, would be told in 6 page, black-and-white episodes and conclude in SECTOR #12 in 2018. Due to a number of factors, SECTOR sadly went into permanent hiatus after the 12th issue...

Furthermore, there is also a Kickstarter campaign to colour and publish it as a single graphic novel in the works.
